Learning Through Play
Even though Karuta is an ancient game, it falls inline with modern educational principles for helping children learn to read. No wonder it withstood the test of time!

Alliterate!â„¢ Karuta follows the Alphabetic Principle, which builds critical reading skills by connecting letters with their sounds to read and write. Alliterate!â„¢ helps build these skills by reinforcing letter-sound relationship, associating letters with matching sounds, and introducing letters with short stories that incorporate various sounds a letter could make. It's a teaching philosophy that highlights the fact that letters, and groups of letters, match distinct sounds in words.
