このカルタの経緯
For over 500 years, Japanese children have been playing an alphabet game called Karuta, and it's my pleasure to bring you the same fun and learning in English.
500年以上も昔から、日本の子供たちはカルタと呼ばれるいろはゲームを楽しんで来ました。
今、楽しく遊びながらアルファベットを学べるカルタを英語でお届けできることを嬉しく思います。
Our Story
My name is Yukari, and I'm the mother of Hiro (5) and Akira (4). My boys are wiggly when it comes to sitting down and learning the alphabet (surprise!), so I reached back to my own wiggly childhood and brought back this game. It's called Karuta, and it’s a game that’s played in schools and homes all over Japan. It’s so popular that it helped establish companies like Nintendo. That’s right! Nintendo started as a playing card company.
私はひろ(5歳)とあきら(4歳)の母のゆかりです。この子たちは座って文字を勉強しようとすると落ち着きがありません（残念！）。そこで、私自身の幼い頃の落ち着きのなさを思い出し、このあそびを思い起こしました。「カルタ」と言い、日本中の学校や家々で遊ばれています。これが任天堂のような会社が起こされる一助となったことは有名です。
Borrowing inspiration from this beloved game, I translated the concept into English, drew and painted each of the cards, and now, it's my pleasure to share Alliterate™, my labor of love, with you and your family.
この素敵な遊びから刺激を受け、私はこの考えを英語に置き換え、英語アルファベットの韻に合わせた絵を描き、色付けしました。今、ここにAlliterate™を皆さまのご家族と共にお分ちできる事を心から光栄に思います。
Important Ideas
The cards are also carefully conceived to showcase ideas that our important to our family - such as cycling to combat climate change.
カードには“Cycling to Combat Climate Change” 「自転車に乗って気候変動に立ち向かう」のように、私たちの家族の理念を示すようにも考慮しています。
Awesome Girls
As a mother of young boys who are easily caught up in boy-world, I also made an expressed effort to show girls doing things they love. Just to name a few, the astronaut alligator, professor panther, and the tiny tiger testing trains are all awesome girls.
男の子の世界に簡単に巻き込まれてしまう男の子の母として、私は女の子たちの世界にも注意を払っています。「ワニの宇宙飛行士」, 「ひょうの教授」, そして 「可愛いタイガー電車をテスト」等は素敵な女の子達です。
Learning Tricks
Finally, because I’m using these cards to teach my own kids, I integrated little tricks to make learning easier. For example, "Peas" are featured in the letter "P" card, and "Mountains" are featured in the "M" card because the letter looks like mountains. And of course, the “S” card features a snake in the shape of an “S.”
また、私は自分の子供たちを教えるためにこのカードを使っていますので、学びやすいいようにトリックを使っています。例えば、「Peas」はアルファベット「P」のカードに、「Mountains」は文字の形が山に似ているので「M」のカードで表しています。そして、「S」のカードは蛇の形を連想して「Snake」で表しています。

Each deck of Alliterate!™ includes 26 reading cards and 26 grabbing cards (i.e. two cards for each letter).

How Alliterate Builds a Foundation for Reading
韻をふむことがどのように読む力をつける土台になるのでしょう。
Even though Karuta is an ancient game, it falls inline with modern principles in learning how to read. No wonder it stood the test of time!
カルタは古い遊びですが、読み方を学ぶうえで現代の学び方に共通してます。 カルタが長い歴史を通して証明されて来たことは驚きではありません。
Alliterate karuta follows the Alphabetic Principle, which builds critical reading skills by connecting letters with their sounds to read and write. Alliterate helps build these skills by reinforcing letter-sound relationship, associating letters with matching sounds, and introducing letters with short stories that incorporate various sounds a letter could make. It's a teaching philosophy that highlights the fact that letters, and groups of letters, match distinct sounds in words.
韻をふむカルタは読み書きする音と文字が結びつくことによって読む力を培うアルファベットの原則に従っています。韻をふむ事は文字と音の関係を強化し、音と一致する文字と関連させ、色々な文字の音が組み合わさってできた短い物語りで文字を体験させていけます。それは、文字がことばの中で音と一致していることを学ぶ重要な教育理念です。
