Our Story

My name is Yukari, and I'm the mother of Hiro (5) and Akira (4). My boys are wiggly when it comes to sitting down and learning the alphabet (surprise!), so I reached back to my own wiggly childhood and brought back this game to help them in the same way it helped me: focus by having fun. It's called Karuta, and it’s a game that’s played in schools and homes all over Japan. It’s so popular that it helped establish companies like Nintendo. That’s right! Nintendo started as a playing card company.

Borrowing inspiration from this beloved game, I translated the concept into English, lovingly designing, illustrating, and painting each card by hand. Now, it's my pleasure to share my labor of love, Alliterate™, with you and your family.

About Yukari

Yukari has a PhD in Mass Communications and a Master's in Public Health. Previously, she promoted community health through back-to-sleep campaigns for infants, bullying prevention, and the like. Yukari also co-founded Roovillage, an online marketplace for flexible daycare.

Yukari's favorite moments are spent listening to her boys laugh - usually from stubbly kisses and tickles from papa.
