This week has been filled with pleasant surprises and humbling moments - including so many of my friends sharing my project all over social media. I've never felt more supported. Thank you.
I also received a shoutout from a major Japanese art, design, and culture blog that I've been following for six years. It was a pivotal moment for me because I go to Spoon & Tamago to simply be mesmerized and uplifted, and for a moment, I got to be apart of the same consciousness as them and its artists.
*** I'm taking a moment to savor this moment. ***
Moving on...some of my favorite art posts are simple, beautiful applications of exiting forms. Like these chopsticks!
The joining technique used in these chopsticks were used to link wood and build homes before metal bolts and nails came into existence. They're still used in temples and traditional buildings, and they continue to amaze me with their detail, function, and artistry.
The same way these simple chopsticks tell a larger story about history, the materials in our world, and how it changes us over time, I hope to share the same story behind my karuta in the next few updates. But for this weekend, I hope you enjoy some things that inspire me during my creation process. Please share you favorite inspirations with me too.
